Chapter III

Four knocks on the iron door yanked you out of your not-so-peaceful slumber.
"Who's there?!" you called.
"Breakfast." This voice, you recalled, belonged to the skulled figure from last night. He peeked in through the small window in the door.
You sighed. "I'm not hungry. When can you let me go? I want to go home."
"From what I hear, you don't have a home."
Your eyes flashed up to meet the two black holes that were his eyes. "How-... Where did you...?"
He opened the door and you saw the mysterious boy from the blizzard standing next to him.
                  *~*~*~*
"So... what will it be? Would you like to attend the DWMA?" Lord Death asked after a long conversation with you about the situation.
You shifted your weight to your left foot. "Well... I don't know..."It would be nice to start a fresh new life here, rather than at home where fights were a daily on-going thing.
"With your magic, you could assist any of the students in their assignments and battles," Death the Kid added in a business-like tone.
"Hmmph." you scowled at the ground. "I don't like using my magic."
"You'll do great!" Shinigami-Sama encouraged as if you didn't say anything. He playfully slapped your back, obviously oblivious to the giant bruise that blackened your skin just under your shirt. You cringed.
"Y-yeah I guess I'll attend-"
"Great! Your official first day at Shibusen will take place tomorrow at seven o' clock sharp!"
A vein in Kid's head twitched for some unknown reason when his father said this. The cheery Grim Reaper didn't notice.
"But I still don't have a home." you pointed out.
"Oh! How could I have forgotten?!" He slapped an oversized hand up to his forehead. "Kiddo-Kun, will you show her to Meister Maka's house and explain everything to Maka and Soul? She can stay there with them for now."
"Of course, father,"  his son answered, leading you out of the school.
You were getting in a better mood, you had to admit. You were glad that you weren't stuck in a potential life-threatening situation, at least; plus, you had made some new acquaintances. And now, you would be attending a world-renowned school in a city that could be your new permanent home. You slightly sighed, content at this new comforting fact.
The two of you began walking down the wide steps from Death Weapon Meister Academy.
"I apologize for asking you this," Kid began formally, "but I don't quite recall your name..."
You giggled a little. "Alexus," you reminded him.
He nodded his head in thought, stealing a sideways glance at you. He did a double-take and squinted at your forehead, his nose wrinkling.
"I-Is something wrong?" you asked, uncomfortable of his judging glare.
He swiped some hair from one side of your head to the other in one quick movement.
You blushed a little, unsure of what he just did. "W-What was that for?"
He stared off at the horizon. "That strand of hair was making you asymmetrical," he said as if we're something he says every day.
Still confused, you gave him a curious, questioning look.
He quickly changed the subject. "You said you have sisters, am I correct?"
"That is correct," you confirmed, letting yourself become distracted from his previous comment. You decided to tease him just for the heck of it, "Why? Do you want me to 'hook you up'?" You laughed.
He blushed a deep red. "N-no!" he quickly spat back, flustered. He struggled to regain his composed posture. Then his face became thoughtful and he chuckled under his breath.
"What? Are you considering it?" you mocked him, nudging his side.
"No, no that's not it... I was just thinking..."
"What?"
"It's nothing. Here we are," he announced.
You were standing in front of the door to Maka's house.
He knocked on the faded paint-chipped door and a boy with white hair and piercing red eyes answered. You shivered a little at the unsettling eye color, but you tried to assume the best about him. 'I'm sure he's a nice guy...' you kept telling yourself.
"Good evening, Soul," Kid greeted.
Soul noticed you standing behind Kid and gave you a once-over. He stopped at your ears and squinted. "Who's this?" he asked, curious.
"This is Alexus. I'll explain it all once we're inside, if you don't mind. It's kind of a long story."
"Come on in."
A girl peeked around the corner of another room. "Oh, hey Kid. You're just in time for dinner! We have plenty if you would like to stay."
"No thanks, Maka. This is more of a... business trip," he handled the phrase lightly.
"Spill it," Soul ordered in a non-chalant, friendly voice as he sprawled himself down on a couch.
Death the Kid recited the story from his point of view, starting with the blizzard. Apparently, he was there on a mission before he ran into you on the icy road. He also threw in some of his father's point of view. 'I guess he and his father share a lot of information with each other,' you observed.
"That's an intriguing story," Maka, who was listening from the kitchen, interjected.
Just then, someone else stepped into the room: a lady, dripping wet and wrapped in a light pink towel, which seemed too small to cover her body properly. Soul's nose suddenly erupted with blood and he fell over, Maka just rolled her eyes.
"MAKA!" the woman yelled in a half-whiney voice. "We're out of shaving cream!" She waved the empty can around in the air.
You jumped up from your seat on the couch in surprise. "BLAIR?!" your eyes grew wide.
She turned her head to see who called her name. Her eyes fell on you and a huge smile stretched over her face. "ALEXUS!" She ran to you and trapped you in one of her signature boob-hugs.
Everyone just stared blankly at you with confused faces.
Blair took a small step back and scanned you, then she looked in your eyes again. "Even after years apart, you haven't changed a bit! Is your magic still the most powerful in the family?" she joked, but was still entirely serious.
You made a face. "Don't remind me. But I see your body is still the best," you cracked a joke back at her, giving her shoulder a mock-punch. It was true, though. Of all four sisters, she had the best figure, and you had the best magic. There was just no getting around it.
Kid let out a small laugh. "I figured."
Now all curious eyes were on him.
"You figured what, Kid?" you queried.
"That's what I was laughing at on the way here. I wondered if you and Blair were related." He sniggered again at the fact he was right.
You laughed along.
"So I guess it's alright if Alexus stays here, then?" Kid asked Maka.
"As long as Blair doesn't mind," she said, yet already knowing that you would be welcomed by your sister.
Blair squeezed you in another hug. "Oh it'll be so much fun we can have pillow fights and eat fish and tell stories..." It's like she already had a mental list ready in case this ever happened.
You rolled your eyes playfully at your older sister and smiled... this was home.
